FULTON, NY – Labor Day weekend means different things to different people. End of the summer, start of school, beginning of football season. At the Fulton Speedway it means two things, the crowning of track champions and the start of gearing up to the kick off of Super DIRT Week with the 31st annual Sunoco Fulton Ethanol Facility Outlaw 200 Weekend presented by SUNY Canton at the speedway.
This Saturday, September 3, Regional Truck & Trailer will present Championship night. Racing on the ‘Highbanks’ will be the Big Block Modifieds, Sportsman, Late Models, Novice Sportsman and Four Cylinders. There will be no mechanics race.
Adult grandstand admission will be $12 with everyone 18 years old and younger free, pits $27. Gates will open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m.
In the 800 horsepower Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modifieds it’s down to Larry Wight in his Gypsum Express/LJL Racing/No.99L and Jimmy Phelps in his J&B Installations/HBR/No.98H to decide the 2016 Track Champion. Besides Wight and Phelps battling it out for the title there will be hungry drivers looking to put a ‘W’ in their win column in 2016.
Congratulations go out to Ron Davis III out of Memphis, NY, as he is the 2016 SUNY Canton Sportsman Track Champion by virtue of his feature win on August 27.
With one of the strongest fields of Sportsman anywhere there were over full fields every week in 2016 with most shows needing a consolation to set the feature starting lineup. There will be a bunch of drivers looking to add a feature victory to their trophy case for the off season and for momentum going into the lucrative Industrial Tire of CNY Sportsman Shootout during the 31st Outlaw 200 Weekend at the speedway September 30 – October 1.
In a season of great racing, the Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Rush Late Models will see defending track champion Chris Fleming and Bret Belden go at it for 20 laps for the title. There is sure to be great two and three wide racing throughout the field Saturday night.
In a wild and crazy season in the JB Logging & Firewood Four Cylinders, Dakota Bechler and seasoned veteran Chuck Powelczyk are set for one final points race to decide the title.
