Scriba Fire Claims Life

SCRIBA -Today (Jan. 28) at 9:51 a.m., members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to 5068 State Route 104 in the town of Scriba for a reported structure fire.

A single-family residence was showing heavy smoke upon arrival.

It was reported to be occupied by one individual.

Fire personnel recovered one person from the structure promptly upon arrival.

The victim was pronounced dead upon recovery.

No other victims were discovered.

The victim,  the sole occupant, was identified as 81-year-old Violet F. Miner, of 5068 State Route 104.

Her cause of death remains under investigation.

The fire was suppressed by members of Scriba Fire. Assisting Scriba Fire were members from New Haven Fire, Novelis Fire, Volney Fire and Menter Ambulance.

The Oswego County Fire Coordinator’s Office is assisting with determining the origin and cause of the fire which remains under investigation at this time.
