Entertainment Set For Fulton Memorial Day Salute

FULTON – The Fulton Memorial Day Salute Committee has announced the final entertainment lineup for this year’s Memorial Day Salute.  The Memorial Day Salute will be held at the Fulton Community Center on Friday May 24 and Saturday, May 25, and will be headlined by well-known local band Frostbit Blue.

According to a spokesperson, following the parade, at 12:00 p.m., several parade bands will perform at the Community Center.  At 1:00 p.m. Master Leo’s Tae Kwon Do Studio will stage a live demonstration.  The Fulton Community Band will then take the stage from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

            At 3:30 p.m., Jojo Cortini and The Little Big Band will perform.  The Little Big Band is a group of students from G. Ray Bodley High School’s Jazz Band, playing charts from the big band era as well as contemporary Latin tunes. According to band leader Jojo Cortini “it’s pretty cool being able to play the Fulton Memorial Day Salute with my classmates. We have a great set put together that features everyone in the band.”  The the band features saxophonists Ada Dumouchel, Owen Dumouchel, Josh King, Emily Barrett and Valerie Nichols, Charlie Chen and Jacob King on trombones, along with Braeden Frost and Keirnan Percival on the trumpets.  The rhythm section includes Doug VanSanford on drums, Maddie Weldin on bass and band leader Jojo Cortini on piano.

            At 6:00 p.m. headline act Frostbit Blue takes the stage.  Founded in 1987, Frostbit Blue has opened for many famous acts over the years including Charlie Daniels, ZZ Top and the Marshall Tucker Band.  The band issued two C.D.’s in the 1990’s and plays mostly original songs with a few Southern Rock covers thrown in by request.  Band members include Nick Gravelding and Tom McCaffrey on guitar, vocalist and keyboardist Mike Place, drummer John Bletch and Benny Fiacco on the bass.

            Fulton Memorial Day Salute is organized by Fulton’s four service clubs, the Kiwanis, Lions, Noon Rotary and Sunrise Rotary Clubs along with local veterans organizations.  The theme for this year’s event is “Honor and Remember”.  Now in its 41st year, the salute features the traditional Saturday morning parade, rides on both Friday night and Saturday, entertainment, food, school poster contest, 5k run, dunk booth, watch fire and fireworks.
