Several of the historical organizations in Oswego County will participate in this year’s Archives Day by having their facilities open for tours. The event will occur on Saturday, October 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Special historical treasures will be on display at all of the facilities, so everyone is encouraged to take a wonderful “history trip†around the county on that day!
“Many historical societies have established a great “History Group†which meets on a monthly basis,†said Peg McKinstry, president of the Oswego County Historical Society (OCHS) Board of Trustees. “We have been discussing ways to help each other and have planned several events in which to participate together, such as offering old- fashioned games at Harborfest and making our museums available to show special items on Archives Day.â€
The organizations participating in Archives Day are Pulaski Historical Society, 3428 Maple Ave. in Pulaski; Halfshire Historical Society, 1100 Co. Rt. 48 in Richland; Friends of History, Pratt House Museum, 177 S. First St. in Fulton; Hannibal Historical Society at Hannibal Community Center, 162 Oswego St. in Hannibal; Mexico Historical Society, 65 S. Jefferson St. in Mexico; Oswego Heritage Foundation, 143 W. Third St. in Oswego; and Oswego County Historical Society, Richardson-Bates House Museum, 135 E. third St. in Oswego.
“By visiting these sites people will have a great opportunity to learn much more about the history of where they live,†said Mary Lou Morrow of the Pulaski Historical Society. “It will give the historical organizations an opportunity to proudly share their facilities too.â€
