OSWEGO, NY –William, Scriber, Port of Oswego Authority executive director and CEO, was included in the just published 2024 Trailblazers in Economic Development featured in City & State New York magazine. Scriber was recognized one of “100 New Yorkers who are on the front lines, creating jobs and spurring economic growth at the local, state and national level.” In 2023, Scriber was recognized in the publication’s Economic Development Power 100 and earlier this year, he was recognized in their 2024 Transportation Power 100.
“I am honored to have been included in City & State magazine as an economic development trailblazer,” Scriber said. “ It is extremely satisfying to me, as I approach retirement at the end of this year, to have been recognized for our efforts here at the Port of Oswego to grow our business, create jobs, and increase our overall economic impact. Throughout my tenure at the Port, I have dedicated myself to elevating the Port of Oswego to a position of prominence among the Great Lakes and New York’s transportation industry. Over the past six years, I have been fortunate to have reached levels of achievement and recognition for our accomplishments that never been reached before here at the Port.”

“Our performance in 2024 continued building on the momentum of our past half-decade of progress,” Scriber said. “Aluminum on-site in 2018 was only 39, 952 tons. As of Dec. 17, we have 62,952 tons on-site, and we will be receiving more in the coming days. That’s a 56 percent increase over 2018 aluminum on-site. We also recently announced plans to build a $23 million climate-controlled warehouse, and shared ways our Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) can help Canadian aluminum manufacturers in managing cash flow and delay tariff impacts promised by President-elect Trump.”
In his listing, the publication itemized some of the Port’s milestones under Scriber’s leadership: ”The Port of Oswego is New York’s home port on the Great Lakes. William Scriber, who plans to retire at the end of the year, has made his mark running the port. On his watch, the port secured $38.6 million in funds for upgrades, the construction of a marina, RV park and an international grain export center. The port is also undergoing a rail yard expansion that will make it Oswego County’s largest rail yard.”
The port was also recognized in 2023 by a U.S./Canadian research study showing that the Port of Oswego Authority, under Scriber’s leadership, makes a $513 million impact on the local and regional economy and supported 2, 229 jobs by its maritime activity. During this time, the port generated $201.2 million in wages, salaries, and local consumption expenditures for the regional economy.
The Port of Oswego’s strategic location at the crossroads of the Northeastern North American shipping market, puts them less than 350 miles from 60 million people. For more information, visit www.portoswego.com, or find them on Facebook under Port of Oswego Authority.
