OSWEGO, NY – Oswego picked up five of a possible six points on the bowling lanes earlier this week as the Buc boys’ bowling team scored a 3-0 win over Nottingham and the girls gained a 2-1 edge.
Coach Bob Hoefer said, “In the second road match of the season, the boys took all three games. Senior Jamie Cliff and sophomore Cameron Byrne led the way as all eight bowlers that traveled saw action. The girls’ team, led by Ashlee Lytle and a season high of 526 continued their improvement in taking two of three points.â€Â
Cliff finished with a team leading 647 with a high game of 224 while Byrne had a 606 with a high game of 236. Matt Salvador bowled two games and had a 417 while Matt Clemons and Gavin Gilbert each had two games with scores of 403 and 346 respectively. Others bowling one game were Zack Sizemore (176), Zack Delbrocco (154) and Mike Mosley (147).
Oswego won the first game 1,084-743, the second 931-744 and the third 881-798.
In girls action the Bucs won the first game 629-605 and then lost the second 671-643. Oswego gained a 713-626 edge
in the final game.
Following Lytle were Christie Hoefer 423, Paige Blum 402, Ceara Donahue 348 and Chelsea Geroux 286.
Oswego boys moved to 20-7 on the year with a 6-3 mark in division play while the girls are 5-22 and 5-4 in division.
Oswego went to the Niagara Falls Festival of Lights High School Tournament where the boys finished sixteenth out of 36 teams and the girls were twenty-third out of the twenty-four team field.
Cliff carded a 209 average for six games while Salvador had a 207, Byrne 191 (five games), Gilbert 178 (three games), Sizemore 176 (three games), Mosley 164 (four games) and Clemons 146 (three games.
The girls all bowled six game and the averages were 137 for Hoefer and Lytle, 116 for Geroux, 109 for Donohue and Blum 97.
Overtime for Lady Bucs
After nearly the entire first half of the season at home the Lady Bucs hockey team took a road trip to Alexandria Bay on Monday night and fought back for a 5-4 overtime victory.
Oswego had a 2-0 lead after one, but A-Bay scored three quick goals at the start of the second to take a 3-2 advantage. However, Oswego fought back with a goal late in the second to send the teams into the third period tied at 3-3.
Coach Dan Bartlett said, “In the third we badly misplayed a puck in front of our own net while on a power play and it directly led to an A-Bay goal and we were down 4-3.â€Â
The count remained that way until late in the third. Bartlett said, “With three minutes to go I pulled Maddie Whalen (goalie) and put Ali Yule in thus gaining a two minute time out. We scored 19 seconds later when Karissa Favata rammed home a Taylar Cianfarano rebound and it sent us to overtime.â€Â
In overtime Devyn Hutcheson was stopped on a breakaway and the puck went to the corner where Cianfarano dug it out, skated around two defended and buried the shot for the Oswego win.â€Â
Bartlett said, “It was a good road win and this was the first time this year we had to play from behind to get a win. This should serve us well down the road.â€Â
Lady Buc Cagers Fall to CNS
The Oswego girls’ varsity basketball team hosted state ranked Cicero-North Syracuse on Tuesday night and lost a 50-35 decision.
Three Northstars scored in double figures to lead a balanced attach while Oswego went into an offensive drought.
Oswego got out of the gate quickly with a 10-2 lead, but then the offense stalled. At the end of the first quarter the Bucs held a 14-13 lead, but during the next 16 minutes could score just six points while CNS put in 29 to build an insurmountable lead.
The Bucs regained their offensive touch with 15 last quarter points, but CNS easily chalked up its fifth win of the year to remain unbeaten in league play at 3-0.
Oswego fell to 2-1 in league and 5-4 overall.
For the Bucs Michelle Canale and Brooke Reifinger had 10 each while Lindsay Johnson had eight, Katie Abramski three, Emily Barlow and Michaela Auer two each.
Offensive Night for CNS Over Buc Boys
Cicero-North Syracuse was too much for the Oswego High School boys’ varsity basketball team as the host team scored a 99-38 win over the Bucs on Tuesday night.
CNS stormed out of the gate with a 24-6 first quarter lead and the advantage ballooned to 48-17 at the intermission.
Pacing Oswego was Jake Metcalf with 11 points and Joe Brown had 10. Corey Galletta and Anthony Samson had five each while Josh McRae, Elliot Singleton and Will Harrington had two and Dan Montagnola scored a foul shot for the 1-6 Bucs.
Jayvee Five Falls
The Oswego jayvee boys basketball team dropped a close game to the Cicero-North Syracuse Northstars by a score of 46-38.
Oswego held a five point lead at half, 21-16, but trailed by one after three quarters. In the decisive fourth quarter, the Bucs defense let them down, allowing the North Stars several layups and easy inside shots.
Pacing the Bucs balanced scoring attack were Josh Gillard and Connor Riley with eighth points apiece, Ryan Patrick and Justin Peterson with seven each. Michael Thompson added four points and outstanding defense, while Nate Miller and Kameron Williams chipped in with two each. Eric Wallace, Autie Ascenzi and Eric Henderson played well off the bench contributing to the Bucs team defense.
The Buc jayvees now stand at 4 – 3, with their next game at Watertown on Saturday, Jan, 9.
