Baseball Team Wins Fourth

Oswego baseball has started off the 2010 schedule quickly with four wins in five games.

On Thursday the Bucs scored a 5-1 win on the road over Central Square behind the five-hit pitching of Bob Beach.

Beach was solid on the mound also striking out three and walking only two as his defense played errorless ball behind him.

Oswego won the game in the top of the first inning with two runs coming across the plate. The Bucs added one in the second and two more in the fourth as they hit the ball solidly.

The 10-hit effort was paced by Dan Montagnola with a 3×4 day including a homer, double, two RBI, three runs and a stolen base.

Mike Brown doubled and singled in four trips to the plate while Bob Canale had a hit, a run and an RBI.

Corey Galletta drove in a run on his only hit while Kevin Carpentier had a hit and a run and Rich Carpentier a hit and stolen base for the 4-1 Bucs.

Lacrosse Team Romps

The Oswego High varsity boys’ lacrosse team scored a convincing 17-2 win over Nottingham on Thursday night for the first win of the season.

Coach Doc Nelson said, “There were lots of goal scorers, lots of assisted goals and everybody saw action.”

Oswego jumped out to a 5-0 first quarter lead and by the intermission it was 9-1.

It was the offensive explosion that Coach Nelson had been awaiting.

The Bucs had several multiple scorers as Rick Uribe had thee while West Ihlow, Pat Holland, Mtt Howard, Sam Czarnecki, Dustin Kavanaugh and Ryan Higgins all had two.

Jamie Reynolds and Eric Witmer along with Jamie Reynolds all had one.

Alex Bush had five assists and Dom Cianfarano had four assists. Also gaining assists were Ryan Ramsey (2), and Ihlow (1).

In the net, Trent Yule had 10 saves and Anthony Scaccia one.

Mitchell Royal finished with 17 saves.

Golfers Edged

The Oswego High School Girls’ Golf Team put forth a good effort on Wednesday in their first home match of the year, but came up short against strong Liverpool and Rome teams.

With many inexperienced players, however, Oswego is more concerned with just being competitive and working to improve with every match.

If you look at Wednesday’s match in those terms, Oswego came out victorious, with almost every player bettering their score from the team’s first match.

Rachel Baxter improved her first match score by 3 strokes, Tess Gordon by 6, and Tori Zerrahn by 6.

“We have some work to do over the spring holiday,” said Coach Dan Rose, “But, I foresee great improvement from each member of the team this year.”

Coach Rose said that the girls are going to really tighten up their games around the greens this year.

“That’s where the most strokes can be saved,” Rose said. “Chipping and putting are the foundation of a good golf game.”

The girls will have a full two weeks to work on their games as their next match is not scheduled until April 28.

Jayvee Lady Lax Falls to FM

A very strong F-M jayvee team jumped out to an early 7 – 3 halftime lead on the home standing Lady Bucs, and never looked back.

Oswego put up a very strong effort for the first 25 minutes, but was unable to sustain their intensity.

F-M controlled a majority of the draws, gaining possession, and forcing Oswego to play defense for extended periods of time.

Oswego scored a season-high seven goals in this game.

Kelsey Ross paced the Bucs with four goals, followed by Alexa Healy with two, and Libby Sherman with one goal.

Catie Geroux and Courtney Hallock added one assist each. missing or outdated ad config
