Buffalo State Ices Lakers

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team allowed two third period goals which led to a 3-1 loss at Buffalo State on Friday afternoon. With the conference defeat, Oswego goes to 9-6-3 overall and 5-5-3 in the ECAC Women’s West.

The host Bengals improve to 14-4-0 and 8-3-0 with their victory.

Oswego had to fight back to even after Buffalo State registered a tally just 4:34 into the contest. Buffalo State had three seconds remaining on a power-play when it cashed in the game’s first goal.

The Lakers would get it back in the middle period, as Lydia Cosgrove lit the lamp for her first of the year.Victoria Blake and Monica Cramer teamed to find Cosgrove, who then beat the Bengal goaltender at 15:56. Oswego carried the momentum into the final period, looking to control the third, as it has most of the year. The Lakers entered Friday’s last 20 minutes with a 26-3 advantage on third period goals over its 2015-16 opponents.

Buffalo State foiled the Laker plan in the third, however, scoring two goals less than two minutes apart, starting at 13:22. Oswego tried to rally but was unable to close the gap before the final horn.

On special teams, the penalty-kill unit allowed one goal on three Bengal opportunities while the Lakers were unsuccessful on four of their own power play chances.

The Lakers outshot Buffalo State 28-23 on the evening and won 32-of-60 attempts in the face-off circle.

Oswego and Buffalo State will have a rematch at 4 p.m. on Saturday, as the Lakers look to bounce back after Friday’s loss. missing or outdated ad config
