Oswego, NY – The Hockey Hall of Fame’s traveling exhibit will make a stop at the SUNY Oswego Campus Center on Saturday, July 23rd as part of the 2011 Erik Cole Dream Big Foundation Golf & Hockey Classic, according to Event Organizer Kevin Caraccioli.
The Erik Cole Dream Big Foundation was established in 2007 by Oswego-native, NHL hockey player, Stanley Cup Champion, and U.S. Olympian Erik Cole. The non-profit organization was created to support youth hockey programs, as well as children who are suffering from cancer and other diseases. This year’s event is slated for July 22-25th.
The Hockey Hall of Fame Exhibit will provide spectators with an interactive and informative showcase of “all things hockey” from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Exhibits from Toronto will be showcased in this unique opportunity for hockey fans of all ages.
Sponsors for the traveling exhibit include: Universal Metal Works/John Sharkey Family and RJ Caruso Accounting.
Admission is a donation of $5.00 per person for adults. Children are free. A commemorative Dream Big wrist band will be provided upon entrance, and the admission price includes the NHL Player Exhibition game and The Zambonis concert, as well as a chance to win a game worn 2011 Erik Cole Dream Big Foundation NHL Player Autographed Jersey. Erik Cole Dream Big Foundation merchandise will also be available for purchase, and concessions stands will be open at the Campus Center Ice Rink.
Included in the exhibit will be the Conn Smythe (Playoff MVP) and Hart Memorial Trophies (League MVP), as well as 12 showcases of exhibits ranging from displays on the Original 6 teams, Wayne Gretzky, Team USA, and Greats of the Game, including a goaltender showcase.
Additionally, there will be five interactive games that will test the hockey skills of young and old alike including: Top Shot Hockey, Mini Rink Zone, Super Deker, Gockey, and Box Hockey.
“The Hall of Fame’s exhibit will be a fantastic attraction for fans of all ages,” said Caraccioli. “It will give hockey enthusiasts a chance to view these famous pieces of hockey history up close at the Erik Cole Dream Big Foundation venue.”
“This is a great opportunity for young or old fans and hockey players to learn about the same legends that inspired me when I was growing up playing hockey in Oswego,” added Cole. “Learning more about the history of the sport, while engaging in the interactive games, makes it a very unique experience. This is certainly a fantastic addition to the weekend of events that we have lined up, and I am really looking forward to it.”
The Hockey Hall of Fame was originally founded September 10, 1943 in Kingston, but moved the exhibits and location to Toronto and the Canadian National Exhibition on August 26, 1961. After several decades, the Hall of Fame changed locations within Toronto, to Brookfield Place on June 18, 1993. Within the first year at the new location, the Hall of Fame received over 500,000 guests.
During the 2000-2006 period, the exhibit received a $12 million renovation, as a part of the New Millennium Revitalization Plan, and on September 8, 2009, the Hockey Hall of Fame unveiled the D.K. Seaman Hockey Resource Center, which will serve as the focal point for research in the sport of hockey. The new resource center is committed to education, as well as the planning and development of the Hall of Fame’s fundraising and charitable efforts.
