The following notice has been posted for Lake Ontario waters:
Remember the area around the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Facility is off limits to boating. The restricted area stretches 1,000 yards offshore and extends from the Alcan plant to the Sunset Bay area along Lake Ontario, east of the city of Oswego.
The following notice has been posted for the Oswego River:
Due to the construction of the NYS Rte. 104 bridge, certain areas of the Oswego River will be restricted to boat traffic. Please watch for signs and buoys.
Oswego River report:
According to Larry Muroski of Larry’s Oswego Salmon Shop:
The river is producing a variety of fish. Sheepshead can be found throughout the river with a few white perch mixed in. Walleyes are taking leeches, nightcrawlers, bucktail jigs and bass shriners from Coleman’s to the Utica St. bridge on the Westside. Carp can be found throughout the river taking corn and dough bait. Panfish are active near the Marine Museum and the Coast Guard Station with worms, minnows, spikes and glow tube jigs being good choices of bait. Rock bass can be found behind the steam station.
Lake Ontario report:
According to Capt. Troy Creasy of High Adventure Sportfishing Charters:
The crazy winds and cold homogenized water temperatures have the fish scattered all over the lake. We do very well one day and then struggle for four days. When the bite is on, fair catches of king salmon are being found from Nine Mile Point, west. Green Pro-Troll flashers with green flies are working along with Northern King spoons in the die hard and NBK patterns. Troll 2.3 to 3 miles per hour and work 80 to 200 feet of water. The browns are tight to the shore in 5 to 10 feet of water and have been scattered from Four Mile Point all the way north. No doubt the waters to the north have been the place to be as the winds have blown the bait to that corner of the big pond.
Mexico Bay report:
According to Capt. Gerry Bresadola of B&B Sportfishing Charters:
Fishing in the bay waters has been fair at best. If you are not out early and I mean real early you probably had a slow day. As this is written Northwest winds are pounding the shore and fishing for browns should pick up. Best advice is to start early, real, real, early.
Salmon River/Pulaski area report:
According to Dave Wood of Woody’s Tackle:
The activity in the river is winding down. The water level will be running at 185cfs through Friday. The deeper holes along the river would be good places to look. Northern pike are active in the estuary with spinner baits, stickbaits and worms under a bobber working well. Bass fishing on a catch and release basis only has also been good.
The lake conditions have been up and down this week. The wind again was a big factor. When it cooperates, the brown trout fishing continues to be good along the shoreline. Early morning remains the best time with spoons off the downriggers.
According to Capt. Troy Creasy of High Adventure Sportfishing Charters:
If you are looking for inland trout, try the upper and lower Salmon River reservoirs. Fish small spinners and worms and try to get on the water early as the bite slows when the sun gets high. The local streams were fishing well but they may be flooded out for several more days.
Oneida Lake Report:
According to Capt. Troy Creasy of High Adventure Sportfishing Charters:
Oneida Lake walleye fishing has been slow on the western end, but great on the eastern end. Worms, jigs, blades and small rapalas are taking most of the fish.
Sandy Pond Report:
According to Dave Wood of Woody’s Tackle:
The walleye fishing on Sandy Pond is very good although your application should change due to the weed growth. Jigging and slip bobber rigging with worms, minnows and leeches have been working.
