Fulton, Oswego Athletic Teams Begin Section III Title Runs

The Section III playoffs are underway and your local Fulton Raiders and Oswego Buccaneers are well represented in the postseason tournament in pursuit for a sectional title.

The Raiders and Buccaneers each made the postseason field in softball, baseball, girls’ lacrosse and boys’ lacrosseFulton Boys Lax

Here are the playoff matchups:

Class A Softball:

9-Fulton vs. 8-East Syracuse-Minoa

Fulton faced off against the Spartans once this season and it did not fare well for the Raiders, as East Syracuse-Minoa took that game handily, 12-4. The good news is that each squad has a similar resume, so it could be either team’s day to win and advance to the quarterfinals and a date with the No. 1 seed, Oneida Indians.

5-Oswego vs. 4-Cortland

Oswego is already in the quarterfinals and will face the Tigers on Thursday. The Lady Buccaneers will take their double-digit win season into this contest and try to avenge their first loss of the season, which came from Cortland.

Class A Baseball:

3-Fulton vs. 14-Chittenango

The Raiders (13-7) are winners of seven straight outings and will put that streak on the line in  a home contest against the Bears (9-11) on Tuesday, who ended the season on a win streak of their own.

6-Oswego vs. 11-Oneida

Oswego is limping into the playoffs as losers of three straight games, but luckily Oneida is in a similar position, losing their final two games of the season.

If these two playoff games go as planned, then their will be a Fulton-Oswego  matchup in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Class B Girls’ Lacrosse: Oswego Girls Lax

8-Oswego vs. 1-Watertown

The Lady Buccaneers will make their way North on Tuesday for a date with the top-seed and highly ranked Watertown Cyclones. Oswego will attempt to take down the Cyclones, which would be the upset of the tournament, in a battle of cross-conference teams.

2-Fulton vs. 7-Whitesboro

In the lone matchup between these teams, which came early in the season, Fulton throttled Whitesboro 21-3. The 15-1 Raiders are in pursuit of the Section III title and the Warriors are their first order of business.

Class B Boys’ Lacrosse:

7-Central Square def. 10-Oswego: 15-7

The Buccaneers traveled to Central Square over the weekend in the first round of the tournament. Oswego opened up the game by scoring four goals in the first quarter and having a 4-1 lead at the end of one, but it was the Redhawks that scored six unanswered goals in the second quarter. Oswego could not recover and saw their season come to an end, despite hat-tricks by Isaiah Love and Mark Schuffenecker.

9-Fulton def. 8-Whitesboro: 12-11

Fulton took to the road for the first round, taking on Whitesboro. This game was back and forth throughout the entire contest, but the first quarter proved to be the difference maker, where the Raiders outplayed Whitesboro 5-2 on the scoreboard. Fulton was led by a slew of seniors, including an impressive five goals by defender Tyler Shaw.

The Raiders will keep to the road and take on the top-seed Jamesville-DeWitt Red Rams on Tuesday in the Quarterfinals.
