Lady Bucs Swimmers Sink MPH-Westhill

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Lady Bucs kicked off their 2012 season to a great start on Tuesday night as they defeated MPH-Westhill at home by a score of 104-74.

Leading the Bucs with first place finishes were sophomore Brenna Riley in the 200 Free (2:06.84) and the 500 Free (5:38.26), freshman Elaina Rando in the 200 I.M. (2:34.12) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:18.97), freshman Mariah Metcalf in the 50 Free (25.79) and the 100 Fly (1:07.63), junior Hailey Ihlow in the diving event (191.10 points), and senior Chrissy Abare in the 100 Free (1:01.28).

The Lady Bucs also put up the top time in the 200 Free Relay (Mariah Metcalf, Elaina Rando, Chrissy Abare, and Brenna Riley 1:50.90) and the 400 Free Relay (Mariah Metcalf, Chrissy Abare, Elizabeth Baker, and Brenna Riley 4:07.17).

Also turning in notable swims was junior Elizabeth Baker in the 100 fly in which she touched out an opponent to place second and qualify for sectionals in 1:11.98.  Baker also posted a lifetime best in her 50 fly split on the 200 medley relay (29.62).

Freshman Clare Donovan also posted a Sectional qualifying swim, her first, in the 100 back (1:12.84).

Freshman Kennedy Thompson just missed the Sectional cut in the 100 back (1:14.82), and eighth grader Libby Rookey had an outstanding meet in her first varsity diving competition, also nearing the Sectional cut with a score of 135 points.

Five Buccaneer 100 freestylers also put up some impressive times. Sophomore Zoe Ferris (1:05.03), freshman Kennedy Thompson (1:05.68) and Ayla Busch (1:06.27), eighth grader Morgan Engle (1:06.41), and junior Cassidy Taylor (1:07.49).

Independent swimmers Breann Burns (Pulaski) and Brooke Morrisseau (Red Creek) also had great meets.

Morrisseau put up an impressive 25.95 in the 50 free with Burns touching just behind her in 26.31.

Later in the meet, Burns would shine in the 100 back (1:02.11) with Morrisseau finishing in her best time of 1:06.06.

Coach Josh Lerch said, “This was a great first dual meet for the Lady Bucs and it revealed the vast depth that the talented Oswego team possesses.  It should be a good season for Oswego as we look to extend the winning streak to two on Friday at Mexico.”
