ONEONTA, N.Y. – In their first action of 2012, the Oswego State men’s and women’s cross country teams posted second-place finishes at the Oneonta Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.
The Laker women tallied 59 points in the five-squad race, while the men recorded 73 in the six-squad race. Oneonta took both team titles, as the men posted 15 points and the women posted 17.
Freshman Katie Laris (Clay, N.Y.) had a strong debut in a Laker uniform as she finished sixth out of 66 runners with a time of 17:59 over the 4.5K course. Meghan Murphy (So., Dix Hills, N.Y.) also turned in a Top 10 finish by placing ninth with a time of 18:26. Noelle Crocetti (Fr., Webster, N.Y.) was the third Oswego State women’s harrier to cross the finish line in 13th after clocking a time of 18:55. Other Laker scorers included Christina Sakowski (Jr., Cicero, N.Y.), who was 16th (18:59), and Karlee Duffer (Fr., Lowville, N.Y.), who was 17th (19:10).
On the men’s side, Ben Sweet (Sr., Pine Bush, N.Y.) posted a result of 20:44, which was good for 21st overall in the 6K event. Damian Archie (Jr., Binghamton, N.Y.) was four seconds behind Sweet for a 22nd-place showing. Sean Lyons (Fr., Kingston, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in 20:58 for 26th-place, while Kyle Gilyard (Jr., Endicott, N.Y.) and Jeff Rozler (Sr., Bemus Point, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring five in 33rd and 34th place, respectively. Gilyward posted a time of 21:52, which was four seconds better than Rozler.
Next weekend Oswego State hosts the Oswego State Cross Country Invitational on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
