OSWEGO, NY – After 11 straight polls as the No. 2 program in Division III, the Oswego State men’s ice hockey team took over the No. 1 spot in the USCHO.com Division III Poll with 10 first-place votes and 290 points in the voting.
Norwich is right on the Lakers’ heels in second with nine top votes and 287 points.
Oswego State was previously ranked No. 1 in the November 7 poll.
Oswego State’s ranking will be tested right away on Friday night when it hosts fourth-ranked Plattsburgh in the annual White-Out Weekend showdown at 7 p.m., which is sold out.
The Lakers (19-2-2, 12-0-2 SUNYAC) hold a three-point lead over the Cardinals (16-3-4, 11-2-1 SUNYAC) for the top-seed in the upcoming playoffs with two games to play in the regular season.
The teams played to a 2-2 tie on December 2 in Plattsburgh.
Amherst and St. Thomas (Minn.) round out the top five at third and fifth, respectively.
