The feisty Oswego girls varsity softball team rallied in the seventh and final inning, trailing 2-0 to the Baldwinsville Bees. Scoring three runs in the final inning gave the Bucs the 3-2 edge.
Late in the game it appeared that the Bucs were on their way to dropping a second game after losing 4-3 to Liverpool on Saturday. In that game the Lady Bucs gave away a lead after surrendering 2 runs in the final 2 innings. But in Tuesday’s game, Oswego was the team to come back in the late innings.
In the seventh inning, Laura Miceli singled to center field. The tying run, Jess Slight was hit by a pitch. Taylor Maas laid down a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt to advance both runners into scoring position. To keep the rally going, Allie Yule hit an infield single to load the bases with Michele Canale up to bat. Canale hit a sacrifice fly to left field, driving home Miceli.
With two outs the hopes of Oswego were fading fast. Devynn Wilder grounded sharply to the Bees shortstop and it seemed like the game would be over. But an errant throw gave enough time for Slight and Yule to cross home plate and give the Bucs the 3-2 victory.
Oswego hit the ball well all game, gathering seven hits on the day. Marissa Canale led Oswego with two singles. Yule, Wilder, Michele Canale, and Erika Lazzaro added a hit.
On the mound, Emily Kolenda found her first win of the season when she relieved starter Laura Miceli. Kolenda came in and looked sharp, retiring nine of the 10 batters she faced.
The Lady Bucs are 2-1 overall, 1-0 in the league.
