OHS Girls’ Golf Team Tops Central Square

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego girls’ golf team has been working hard to improve all year.

And, on Thursday (April 29), in Rome, that hard work finally paid off with a victory.

In a tri-match with Rome and Central Square, Oswego defeated Central Square at Rome Country Club.

Coach Dan Rose said,” The girls had a series of individual and season records in this win. The 229 total was their lowest of the year (by 11 strokes), and three players recorded their lowest nine-hole scores of the year. Rachel Baxter and Sarah Gosek toured the difficult back nine at Rome Country Club in 54 strokes tying for team medalist honors. Michaela Kearns also summoned her best nine of the season, carding a 59 including a beautiful one-putt par on the difficult par four opening hole.”

Also competing in this match were fellow Buc players Tess Gordon, Coutney Kelly and Ashley Deveney (who was making her first ever varsity start).

Although Oswego’s 229 total was not enough to eclipse the powerful Rome squad, the Oswego golfers are showing strong improvements in their games early on in the 2010 season.

This bodes well for future matches.

The girls return home to battle Central Square on Monday in a league match. missing or outdated ad config
