With every girl running a season or personal best, the Oswego girls cross country team, turned in an outstanding performance Saturday, at the 18th Annual East Syracuse Minoa Cross Country Invitational. The Lady Bucs placed fifth overall in their race, behind three teams ranked in the state.
Freshman standout Mackenzie Robinson was the top finisher for the Lady Bucs, lowering her previous best by 46 seconds, to place 8th, in a fast time of of 20:29. Sophomore Lexi Gillard, who has improved in every race this season, placed second for Oswego, with a personal best time of 21:49, an improvement of 44 seconds, over the fast 3.1 mile Pine Grove Junior High course. Steadily improving Bridgette Auyer placed third for the Lady Bucs, running a season best of 22:53, followed by senior Jenna Delaney, who is rapidly working her way to the front, with a personal best time of 23:12 . Brittany Ross (23:16), Katie Abramski (23:18), Shandelle Tetro (23:33), and Emily Lloyd (23:55) rounded out Oswego’s strong effort with season best performances.
In the Varsity II race, all four runners ran their best times ever, led by junior Ann Taverni (25:10), with an improvement of 1:25, Danielle Posillipo, bettering her previous best by 44 seconds, Brandy Earl, coming back from illness with a 10 second drop, and vastly improved Marycate Rice, who shattered her previous best by 44 seconds.
“I am very proud of our efforts and performances,” said Oswego coach Jim McCaul. “We are improving and running very well as a team and closing down on the teams that beat us earlier in the season.”
Oswego will close out a very successful dual meet season tomorrow, hosting the visiting Redhawks of Central Square, in a CNYCL American division matchup, starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Oswego Middle School.
