Oswego, NY – The Oswego Squirt 1 hockey team captured wins over Auburn and Ithaca in recent action, a week after losing their first Snowbelt League game against Watertown.
Oswego is now 3-1 in the Snowbelt League, and 3-2 overall.
In their 5-3 loss to Watertown at Crisafulli Rink, Oswego got off to a slow start in the first period as the Rapids took an early 2-0 lead. The visitors would add one more in the second period, before Oswego’s Aidan Taylor found the net at the 7:13 mark. Oswego’s Joe Palmer then put away his first goal of the season, off an assist from Spencer Stepien, before Taylor scored again at 4:44 of the third to tie the game. Watertown added two more quick goals shortly thereafter to take the win.
Oswego Goalie Ethan Rando recorded 25 saves in net.

The Bucs traveled to Auburn and Ithaca the following weekend, and picked up two wins over their Snowbelt opponents.
In the Auburn game at Casey Park, Oswego jumped out early, scoring seven goals in the first period. Alex Vescio, Spencer Stepien (2), Aidan Taylor (3) and Derek Sabatini each scored to spark the Oswego run. Cole Cullinan and Billy Waterbury added assists in the first period.
Oswego would add three more goals in the second, when Cullinan, Vescio and Taylor once again found the net to make it 10-0. Oswego capped off their scoring in the third, when Brandon Demling netted his first of the day. Auburn would add their lone goal late in the game to make the score final at 11-1 Oswego.
“The team played very strong on offense, but equally strong on defense,” said Taylor. “The kids really overmatched the Auburn team, and I was proud of how they responded to their loss against Watertown.”
Rando had 4 saves in the win.

The Squirt 1 team traveled to The Rink at Ithaca the following day and won 6-3 in the away matchup. Oswego Forward Spencer Stepien got the Bucs off to a quick 2-0 lead in the first minute, when he scored off the initial faceoff, and again just seconds later on a wrap around goal against the Ithaca net minder. Oswego’s Aidan Taylor scored the next two goals for the Bucs, before Ithaca responded with two of their own to make it 4-2 Oswego. Taylor and Brandon Demling would add two more in the third period and Ithaca finished out the scoring at 7:52 of the period, to make it 6-3 Oswego.
“We jumped out 2-0 on Ithaca in the first minute and I think that set a tone in the game that Ithaca couldn’t rebound from,” said Coach Taylor. “We got a little sloppy at times in the second period, but got a couple more goals to secure the win. I was proud of the team and the way they continued to work hard late in the game.”
Oswego Goalie Ethan Rando had 9 saves, in securing his third win of the season.
