Oswego State women’s basketball team overpowers New Paltz

Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s basketball team cruised past New Paltz 75-51 on Tuesday night in Max Ziel Gymnasium.

With the win, the Lakers improve to 6-7 on the year and 2-4 in conference play.

Oswego took control of the game in the first half with the game knotted at 7-7. At 15:03 the Lakers went on a 15-3 spurt over 2:32 to take a 22-10 advantage.

The team shot a perfect 6-for-6 during the span, with Tayler Sorell scoring five of the squad’s points.

As a team, the Lakers shot 16-for-26 (61.5%) from the field, including 57.1% (4-for-7) from beyond the arc.

Oswego grew that lead over the final 13 minutes of the opening period, taking a healthy 41-27 lead into the break.

In the second half, the story remained the same as Oswego continued to advance its lead, having as many as a 27-point margin in the period.

Defensively, the Lakers held the Hawks to just 35.6% (21-for-59) shooting from the floor. New Paltz also shot under 30% (27.3%; 3-for-11) from the 3-point line.

Offensively, Oswego was led by senior Jenn Robbins, who was extremely efficient from the field. Robbins shot 8-for-11 (72.7%) with an even more impressive 4-for-5 (80.0%) from distance.

The Lakers had 10 different players score in the contest, with Lauren Nunziato having the team’s second-most, tallying 11.

On the glass, Paula Egelston paced Oswego with nine boards. Egelston was not the only active Laker rebounder as 11 Oswego players collected a carom on the night.

Oswego will return to action at 6 p.m. on Friday when it travels to The College at Brockport to face the Golden Eagles.
