Oswego versus Fulton is always a match up that generates emotions and determined efforts.

On Wednesday the Bucs and Raiders lady lacrosse teams met in not just any game, but the Section III Class B championship encounter.  It was a battle throughout, but in the end the Bucs advanced to the state tournament with a 13-7 victory.

The final score was not indicative of the game. With 13:54 remaining Fulton had rallied and closed the gap to 7-6. Oswego appeared to be on a verge of a Raider comeback. However, Coach Laura Burger called a time out and the Bucs refocused.

What happened over the next 13:42 was enough to make fans on both sides shake their heads. Oswego held the Raiders scoreless for that period of time and while exploding for six unanswered goals. It wasn’t until just 12 seconds remaining on the clock that Fulton was able to score its seventh goal.

Solid goaltending by Tayler Bowman, swarming defense, consistent ball movement and the ability not to get frustrated as the Fulton goalie was coming up with solid saves meant the victory for the Bucs. Oswego moves on to face Vestal in the state quarterfinal game at Corning at 5 p.m. on Saturday June 2.

After the time out call with just under 14 minutes remaining Taylor Giglio, who had six goals on the day, scored within 18 seconds and moments later Becca Martin made it 9-6 as she used the turf for a bouncing goal.

In just 70 seconds the Bucs had taken a one goal lead and stretched it to four goals as Alexa Healy  took a perfect feed from Kaitlyn Armstrong for a 10-6 advantage.

The Bucs were led in scoring by Giglio with six goals while  Mikayla Place had two goals and two assists and Martin had two goals. Mackenzie Robinson scored while Sarah Stobener had a goal and assist. Healy had the only other goal for Oswego. Libby Sherman had an assist while Armstrong had two.
