Fishing Reports for August 17, 2012

Oswego River/Lake Ontario report:

According to Larry Muroski of Larry’s Oswego Salmon Shop:

The water level has been between 1,000-3,000cfs over the last two days. This morning it is flowing just over 1,570cfs. The same species are active – smallmouth bass, sheepshead, catfish and carp. Live bait such as soft-shell crabs, minnows, worms, leeches and crayfish are working well.

Lake Ontario report:

The salmon action on the lake has overall picked up the last few days. Most days the bite has been good in 100-160 feet of water but anglers have moved out to 200-250 feet of water if the bite was tough in the more shallow depths. Fly/flasher combinations, spoons, divers and copper are working well. Brown trout are active in 80-100 feet of water. West winds are creating some rough water today but conditions are expected to improve as we go through the weekend.

Pulaski Area/ Salmon River report:

The fishing did a turn about this week as the bite was off the chart. Targeted area was 110-160 feet of water. Kings were responding to just about any application with flies/flashers, Michigan stinger spoons and Moonshine spoons doing very well. The cold front going through today along with the wind will likely mix things up a bit. As conditions settle down look for great fishing. The salmon are in the bay in big numbers in the pre-staging mode. Look for some brown trout activity and the bass bite is still very good in Mexico with soft shell crabs being the choice of bait.

Oneida Lake report:

Conditions on Oneida Lake have remained about the same. The walleye bite has been spotty due to the abundance of baitfish. Bucktail jigs tipped with a worm and blade baits have been working in about 20-30 feet of water. Smallmouth bass have been following shad so look for bird activity on the lake and you will likely find some fish.

Sandy Pond report:

The pond is very heavily weeded and there is not much action taking place.
