Remember the area around the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Facility is off limits to boating. The restricted area stretches 1,000 yards offshore and extends from the Alcan plant to the Sunset Bay area along Lake Ontario, east of the city of Oswego.

Conditions have settled down from last week’s storm. The water flow has been running between 9,000-11,000cfs. Steelhead and browns can be found throughout the river. Driftboats are enjoying the better conditions and doing well with some double digit days. Trout beads, nightcrawlers, waxworms, Glo-bug yarn, egg sacs, pink worms, and fathead minnows remain the choices of bait.

Monday was a decent day with cloudy conditions and the temperature was in the 30’s. The fishing pressure has slowed down now that winter has arrived and we’re getting closer to the holidays. The upper end of the river between the Lower Fly Fishing Zone and the Wire Hole continues to get the most attention on a daily basis, but has also produced the most action. Overall anglers are reporting getting into a few fish, but working hard for the ones they get.
According to the Douglaston Salmon Run:
We did see quite a few more anglers on the water Sunday. They enjoyed some balmy temperatures and a moisture free day. We got mixed reports on the fishing action. As some folks we spoke to had a very good day and others seemed to struggle. I think it had a lot to do with being in front of the right pod of fish at the right time. The snow, slush and cold have really brought the water temperature down and it will take some time for the fish to stabilize to these winter conditions.
Oneida Lake report:
The last couple of days have been much quieter and temperatures have been near 40 degrees. The nighttime shore bite remains mixed with some nights good and other slow. On the slow nights, try changing your bait size and a slower or faster retrieve might be helpful. Dutchman’s and Lewis Points have been good.
Sandy Pond report:
There is not much activity on the pond at this time.

According to Hugh Quinn of the Osceola Tug Hill Ski Club:
Our last snowfall was one inch on December 14. The trails currently have a 12 – 20 inch base with wet snow conditions.
According to the Winona Forest Recreation Association:
Since the DEC is plowing Bargy we cleared and groomed Pussycat, Bronze, Marsh, Kate Hall, Gold Spike to Wart for a way around. Secondary trails still need work. Hessle Road has been closed by DEC from Bargy to Wart for bridge reconstruction. We didn’t get as much snow as some other areas. Northeast end of the forest had 3-5″ southwest about 12″. Rain Sunday and Monday …we will lose a lot of it.

Our trails will not open until December 27th after the southern tier hunting season.
According to the Pulaski/Boylston Snowmobile Club:
For everyone’s safety we must advertise all trails are closed. We only had limited trails east of I81 and North of Salmon River open but with the heavy winds and snow last week our trails and others have gotten trashed. We are sitting between 1 and 3 feet of snow system wide and were fortunate to get a good freeze before the heavy snow. If we can get the trees cleaned up, we should be able to start grooming soon. Sorry for the delay but we need to ensure the trails are clear and safe.
