Plattsburgh Defeats Laker Women’s Tennis Team

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Haley Miller (So., Springwater, N.Y.) took a set at fifth singles, but her result would be the best for the Oswego State women’s tennis team (1-8) as Plattsburgh (7-3) defeated the Lakers, 9-0, on Friday.

After winning just one game in the first set, Miller played steadier tennis in the second set to force a third-set supertiebreaker. She trailed 6-0 in the breaker, but fought tooth and nail before being ousted 10-7 by Plattsburgh’s Jackie Bogdon.

After losing all three doubles matches, the Lakers needed a miracle in singles, but couldn’t pull it off on Senior Day. Seniors Kelly Corwin (Rochester, N.Y.) and Wini Decker (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) were honored before the match. Corwin led in the second set of her fourth singles match, but ultimately lost, 6-2, 6-4.

The Lakers are back in action Monday, as they host a rescheduled match against Wells at 3:30 p.m.
