The game was a rematch from Step One Creative’s 6-5 win earlier in the season against Cortland at Cullinan Rink in Oswego.

The Bucs were led by a balanced scoring attack and strong play from goaltender Tyler Wallace, who returned to the ice after missing the previous four games with an injury.

Oswego defenseman Brandon Graham got the scoring started just minutes into the game off a feed from forward Ryan Mosher. Step One Creative would score two more goals later in the first period when Tyler Eckert and Jack Rice found the net. Monica Cahill and Eckert were credited with the assists to make it 3-2 Step One after one period.

The Bucs exploded on offense in the second period scoring five goals to take control of the game. Step One Creative’s Spencer Stepien, Graham, Christian Talamo, Gavin Neuland, and Isaiah Raby each scored. Adding assists were Nick Burnett, Rice, and Graham.

After leading 8-after two periods, Step One Creative would add two more scores in the third, when Rice added his second goal of the day off an assist from Neuland. Derek Morgia would finish off the scoring at 8:14 of the third with an unassisted tally.

“The kids played great from the start and really wanted this win,” said Step One Creative Head Coach Dave Morgia. “It’s been a tough stretch of games through the holidays, so it was nice to see both the offense and defense play strong and get the win against Cortland.”

Wallace had 13 saves in his return to the net to capture the win.

Step One Creative travels to the Brockville Legion Peewee Tournament this upcoming weekend in Brockville, Ontario, Canada.
