Tri-Oswego 2011 Triathlon Set To Challenge Athletes in Oswego this Upcoming June

Oswego, NY – Hundreds of triathletes from throughout the Northeast will embark on the Oswego community this upcoming June 25-26 for the Tri-Oswego 2011 Triathlon.

A full slate of competition and fun-filled activities for participants, youth, and their families are planned, according to Tri-Oswego Race Director Ron Nelson.

The USA Triathlon sanctioned event is presented by Novelis, Sysco Foods, and Michelob Ultra.

“We’re really excited about our inaugural event,” said Nelson. “We believe the participants will find our Lake Ontario setting to be the perfect backdrop for our tri competition.”

Triathletes are invited to participate in the Sprint Tri, Intermediate Tri, or Sprint Relay Tri event on Sunday, June 26th, while youth are encouraged to sign up for events and activities that will take place a day earlier on Saturday, June 25th.

Registration and event information is available on the Tri-Oswego website at www.tri-oswego.com.

The Sprint event includes an 800-meter swim, 13-mile bike course, and a 5K run. The Intermediate distance event includes a 1500-meter swim, 25.6-mile bike course, and a 10K run.

The Race Schedule will be as follows:

According to Nelson, the course will have participants starting the race with the swimming leg in the channel waters along the breakwall adjacent to Oswego’s Breitbeck Park, then biking across the challenging hills of Oswego County, and then concluding with a distance run to the finish.

“Our Oswego setting will provide a very challenging venue for our participating athletes,” said Tri-Oswego Assistant Race Director Shane Broadwell. “The committee has been working hard on building a race course that sets the bar for CNY Triathlons.”

Participants that register early will have an opportunity to save on their entry. Registration fees for the Sprint Distance are $65.00 before March 1, 2011; $75.00 from March 1, 2011 – April 30, 2011; and $85.00 from May 1, 2011 – June 12, 2011.
