OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Speedway will feature the return of the Spring Championship on Saturday and series point leaders Otto Sitterly and Andrew Schartner will lead the charge into the ‘Steel Palace.’
Sitterly is fresh off of his 6th career Jim Shampine Memorial title last weekend and currently leads Bob Bond in the Novelis Supermodified Road to the Championship standings. In a great battle with Dave Gruel and Bond last week, which saw Bond run into issues and drop out at lap 61, Sitterly would slip by Gruel on lap 68 to snag the top spot and the win in front of national television cameras from Speed Sport TV and MAVTV.

The point lead for Sitterly heading into Saturday night is 37-points over Bond and 43-points over Gruel.
Gruel started off last Saturday in rough shape, backing into the third turn wall in warm-ups. However, the Gruel Racing team was able to rebound, fixing their racecar and going on to claim the Radical Racegear Lap Leader Award in the 75-lap Shampine Memorial.
Opening night winner David Danzer rides fourth in the standings, despite cracking the first turn steel last Saturday night. Danzer was battling several cars on the high side of the track, before getting out of shape and ending in turn one. Danzer was ok after the impact and will look to counter on Saturday night as his championship hopes remain alive.
Rounding out the current top five is Jeff Abold in the Abold Racing No. 05. In the feel good story of the season so far, the Abold’s managed to re work their homebuilt Supermodified into a contender this off-season, and two consecutive top ten finishes have Abold sitting cool in the fifth position in the standings.
Joey Payne, Joe Gosek, Brian Sweeney, Pat Lavery and Randy Ritskes fill the top ten order in the championship standings as of May 24.
Jessica Zemken currently rides 13th in the overall standings in the Graham Racing No. 11 after her fifth place finish on Saturday. Zemken became the first woman to win a non-wing Novelis Supermodified heat race and Saturday and backed it up with a tremendous fifth place finish in the main.
Ohio invader Dave Shullick Jr. also put on a great drive on Saturday driving the Nicotra Racing No. 6. Shullick started the event from 23rd after being collected in a heat racing accident, but managed to drive his racer all the way to third by the end of the 75-lap show last Saturday.
On the Small Block Super side of the standings, Andrew Schartner continues to lead the way after two consecutive wins to start the season. Schartner earned his first career White Memorial title last Saturday after passing both Mike Bond and Tim Gareau on his way to the victory.
With the win Schartner holds an 11-point lead over Bond in the race for the championship.
Like Schartner, Bond has two consecutive top five finishes to start the season, and has himself in prime position for a year-long battle with Schartner for the point crown.
Track record holder Jack Patrick is third in the standings ahead of Kreig Heroth and Barry Kingsley in the top five.
Heroth joins Schartner, Bond, Steve Abt, Jon Tesoriero, and Josh Kerr as the only drivers with two top ten finishes this season.
Abt, Tesoriero, Kerr, Gareau, and Jason Simmons complete the top ten in the SBS standings.
