TFN To Participate In World No Tobacco Day

Young women around Oswego County are saying "We've seen enough!" to tobacco marketing targeting them.

According to the WHO, young women are a major target for the tobacco industry in its effort to recruit new users to replace those who will quit or die prematurely from tobacco-related diseases. Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death and kills more than five million people every year, about 1.5 million of whom are women.

Rural Health Network Asks How Does Tobacco Look On You?

Danielle Wert (left), coordinator of the Rural Health Network of Oswego County, meets with Diane Oldenburg, senior public health educator (center), and Abby Jenkins, program coordinator for the Tobacco Free Network of Oswego County, to discuss the agency’s agenda to address the issue of tobacco use among women ages 14 to 24 in Oswego County.

Working in collaboration with the Tobacco Free Network of Oswego County and the Oswego County Health Department, The Rural Health Network of Oswego County is stepping up the effort to decrease point of sale advertising and to raise awareness of tobacco advertising and promotional materials aimed at the target population of women between the ages of 14 to 24.
