FULTON, NY – Fulton native and contestant on “The Voice,” Josh Batstone gave a private concert to the kindergartners of Lanigan Elementary recently, his own alma mater.
Batstone made it to the Battle Rounds of the eighth season of “The Voice” on Adam Levine’s team. His performance of “Amnesia” (by the Australian band “5 Seconds of Summer”) on “The Voice” can be purchased on iTunes.
Batstone was able to reunite with his own kindergarten teacher Sandra Patane, who is still currently teaching with the Fulton City School District.
“I remember him being fun and angelic, always smiling, and he had a little hum to his day,” said Patane. “Little did I know that when he was learning his alphabet and learning to write his letters, that he would one day be writing his own music.”
Karrie Schremp, another Lanigan kindergarten teacher, had contacted Batstone via Facebook a few months before to wish him luck on the show.
“I told him we were really proud of him, that I had told all my kids about him and that we were all cheering for him,” said Schremp. “He wrote back right away and asked if we would like a private kindergarten concert.”
The kindergarten classes had each created their own poster cards and mailed them to Batstone; Excitement beamed on their faces as he walked into their classroom.
“It’s incredible,” said Batstone. “Not only the cards that they sent me, but the smiles on their faces when I came walking through the door. It makes me remember how important it is to be home and to know where you came from.”
Batstone performed familiar songs as well as original songs that he wrote for the youngsters.
He told the kids that his girlfriend Chloe, who currently resides in France, is a “real-life princess,” his favorite color is blue and he loves pizza.
The 18-year-old singer will be performing live in concert at the Fulton War Memorial May 1, at 8 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are $10 (available for purchase at Mimi’s Drive-in in Fulton) and $12 at the door.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Fulton Knee High and Lady Raiders Basketball.
Batstone is currently a home-schooled high school senior with his parents Nicole and Michael of Fulton.
