FULTON, NY – While his opponent was in Oswego Friday, Republican Assemblyman Will Barclay was in Fulton, shaking hands and chatting with locals at Mimi’s Drive In diner.
Barclay told people at the diner that he thought that the governor was going to announce the date of the special election Friday. He was right. Within an hour of making those comments, Gov. Elliot Spitzer announced that the election will be held Feb. 26.
“Just bare with me a little longer,†Barclay said through a smile, laughing with diner patrons about the amount of exposure that the campaign for the 48th District Senate race has brought thus far.
Both Barclay and Democratic Assemblyman Darrel Aubertine have been running television spots, mailing flyers and flooding media outlets with endorsement releases to show where they have won support. Barclay was actually at the diner Friday with news personnel from the New York Times.
