Danielle Marie-Therese Syrell

“She’s the heroine of her own amazing story and the funniest person I know.”

Danielle Marie-Therese Syrell

OSWEGO – Danielle Marie-Therese Syrell, of Oswego and Manlius, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026. She was born on June 11, 1980, the daughter of Robert Syrell and Jean Syrell (Wallace). Danielle grew up in Oswego, NY, and was known for her incredible generosity and kindness, her impeccable style, and her wicked sense of humor.

Danielle attended Wells College and spent time studying in Peru, where she worked in a women’s prison with both the inmates and their children, an experience that had a profound impact on her. She later lived in Norway, a place that always held a special spot in her heart and deepened her love of travel and her appreciation for the wider world. Over the years, she worked with Catholic Charities and at The Craftsman Grille and Taphouse, among other places, and wherever she was, her warmth, sincerity, and compassion touched all who worked with her. Deeply creative, she especially loved collage and mixed?media art, and she found joy in discovering new places; her adventures took her across the globe, each journey adding to the vibrant tapestry of her life.

She is survived by her parents; her sisters, Renee (Timothy) Patterson and Justine (Steven) Louis; her aunt, Ann Wallace; her nephews, Finnegan, Murphy, and Aengus Patterson; and her nieces, Elizabeth and Angela Louis. Danielle cherished time with her nephews and nieces and was never happier than when she was in her role as Aunt D. She is also survived by her partner, Mark, and his daughter, Tallulah, and her beloved cat, Coco, who each brought joy, companionship, and love into her life. She leaves behind a legion of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, all bereft at her passing. She is predeceased by her paternal grandparents, John and Julia (Sawyer) Syrell, and her maternal grandparents, William Wallace and Sally (Fry) Cronk.

Danielle had a special gift for making the people in her life feel seen, loved, and celebrated. If you were in her life, you were lucky indeed, because not only was she the prettiest girl in the room, she was also a stalwart and adventurous friend, a dutiful and loving daughter, a fun and crazy aunt, a hilarious and loyal sister, a wonderful listener, a bit of a magpie, and even, sometimes, a coffee pirate. She was a cherished soul who left this earth too soon. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her zest for life, her enormous eyeglasses collection, her oversized rings, her command of a room, and her ability to somehow be gorgeous while doing a silly jig to make you laugh. In short, she was a legend.
