Members of the student body recently collected funds to donate directly to the hospital for the purchase of activities, personal hygiene items and treats for veterans.

Donna Kestner, director of the Oswego County Veterans Service Agency, recently attended a Morning Express program at Fairgrieve to praise the students for their community service efforts.

Principal Jean Sampsell said the collection is one of four community service projects students in grades pre-kindergarten through six participate in throughout the school year.

She told the students military men and women who were wounded now need Fairgrieve’s help to make them feel better.

The youngsters also learned that if they are unable to donate, a great way to make a veteran feel appreciated is to thank them for serving their country, create a card or draw a patriotic picture.

The annual collection is held each November, in honor of Veterans’ Day.
