Wear It! Oswego Celebrates National Safe Boating Week

OSWEGO, NY – The Wear It! Oswego campaign celebrates National Safe Boating Week, May 19-25, by placing ‘Life Jackets Save Lives’ banners throughout the city of Oswego, and at the Oswego County Public Safety Building.

The campaign worked closely with the city of Oswego Traffic Department to identify available lampposts and to install the banners in time for the warmer weather.

“These banners prominently feature the Wear It! Oswego logo and are another way to reinforce the message that people should wear a life jacket whenever recreating on or near water — not just during National Safe Boating Week but year-round,” said Oswego Police Chief Tory DeCaire.

The campaign also is in full swing outside the City of Oswego proper. According to Oswego County Sheriff Reuel Todd, “A large ‘Life Jackets Save Lives’ banner will soon be perched on the hill outside the Oswego County Public Safety Building, visible to motorists coming in and out of the city on New York State Route 481. The banner is another way to show our support for this important water safety campaign.”

The National Safe Boating Council (www.safeboatingcampaign.com) – organizer of National Safe Boating Week and the national Wear It! program – reminds everyone to practice safe and responsible boating, always wear a life jacket, and be alert and aware while on the water.
