BREWERTON, NY – After leaving “The Deuce” ride on friendly terms after last Friday nights event at the Brewerton Speedway, Willy Decker brought out his own Come Race With Us.Com, No.1x and it was a successful night for the Vernon, NY Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified driver.
Decker took the lead from Dan Vauter on lap 16, and then he out ran Chuck Bower and the rest of the 28 car starting field for the win. With his win Decker became the fourth winner in four feature events run in 2012 at the “D-Shaped Dirt Demon”.
Other winners on the successful and popular Syracuse.Com Family Autograph Night were, Kevan Cook, Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds, Tim Devendorf, Beaver River Distribution ESDCA Mod Lites and Chad Dupra took top honors in the Anchor Bar & Grill Four Cylinder Super Stocks.
Dan Vauter bolted away from the rest of field as he set the early pace in the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified Feature.
With 5 laps showing on the scoreboard, Vauter was still setting a quick pace as, Willy Decker, Chuck Bower, Tony Steiner and Matt Fink ran in a tight pack battling for second through fifth.
On lap 10, Vauter still led, but at this point, Decker and Bower started closing in on the leader with Mike Mahaney and Fink showing in the top-five.
With 15 laps showing on the scoring tower, you could have thrown a blanket over Vauter, Decker and Bower as they not only raced for the lead, but started trying to put cars down a lap. One lap later, Decker was able to box Vauter behind a lapped car as he shot by to be scored the new leader on lap 16.
With 10 laps to go Decker and Bower took off in a two car breakaway as Vauter and Matt Sheppard were in a torrid battle for third that saw Sheppard spin in turn one ending his run for the win as he continued from the back of the pack.
Over the remaining laps there was no stopping Willy Decker, as he pulled away from Chuck Bower for the win. Bower, Jimmy Phelps, Dan Vauter and Mike Bowman rounded out the top-five. Matt Fink, Pat Ward, Billy Decker, Roy Bresnahan and Ryan Phelps completed the top-ten.
“It’s been awhile, last year we quite a few good runs here, it’s great to get the monkey off our back, and have some luck for once. It feels great for this 1x crew.” Willy Decker said in victory lane Friday night.
“We just weren’t working out in “The Deuce” car. Both Deek (Decker the car owner) and I, we called quits on it. He went his way and I went mine. No hard feelings, he’s a great guy and crew members. I’m just happy to be in the 1x in the winner’s circle.
On Friday night Steve Hulsizer was behind the wheel of the Deek Decker owned machine.
In the Nationwide Insurance 20 lap IMCA Modified feature, defending track champion Kevan Cook was back in victory lane. Cook was able to run down and pass Rich Keller on lap 14 to grab the popular win. Rich Keller who led from lap 5 to lap 13 finished second. Rich Keller, Ryan Scott and Chris Fleming finished second through fifth. Rookie Dan Searles, early leader Jason Amidon, John West, Brian Van Tassell, and Pat Chandler completed the top-ten.
What word can be described for Beaver River Distribution ESDCA Mod Lite driver Tim Devendorf? Fast. It took Devendorf 6 laps to grab the lead from his 18th starting spot to put himself in victory lane for the third time in four events run in 2012. Jeff Isabell Jr., Joe Isabell, Joe Garafolo and Mike Mullen finished second through fifth.
Chad Dupra stood in victory lane in the Anchor Bar & Grill Four Cylinder Super Stock feature. Dupra said from victory lane it has been four years since he had won. Jessica Redhead, Keith Shay, Zak Petrie and Wendall Washington rounded out the top-five.
