Success By 6 Children’s Book To Aid Parents

FULTON, NY – The United Way’s Success By 6 Program wants first-time parents to know that children do come with directions.

Executive Director of the United Way of Greater Oswego County Melanie Trexler has announced that the Success By 6 Program has recently published an informative book that will provide first-time parents with valuable information that will help them be responsible and effective parents.

Entitled, Children Do Come With Directions, A Guide for Parents, the book is a comprehensive guide that is filled with must have information for first-time parents including:

The different stages of the first five years of a child’s life.

The importance of learning activities in the home before the child enters pre-school or kindergarten.

The meaning behind certain actions a child does.

How a parent / caregivers actions reflect upon how the child grows up to act.

In addition the book also includes:

Important numbers and parent resources.

Pages to record immunizations, and what shots are needed when.

The different stages of development.

Important nutrition concepts.

Literacy development tips.

Health and safety guidelines.

Family life situations, what to do when your child does…

Trexler noted that many parents and caregivers find themselves in situations with their child that they don’t know how to handle.

This book is designed help them find the answers to their questions and guide them in the right direction so that they are able to raise a child ready and developed to enter school.

“We are happy to be able to provide parents with this valuable resource,” said Trexler. “Bonnie Holmes and members of the Success By 6 Early Learning Committee worked tirelessly to research and compile the vast amount of information that is included in this book. Their collaboration with other community members and organizations including The Child Care and Development Council Of Oswego County, Oswego County Early Intervention, The Oswego County Public Health Department, United Way Board Member, Paul Scott, Vince Akissi, and HQ Hanson Printing helped to make this book possible.”

“I would also like to acknowledge the following members of the Success By 6 Early Learning Committee for their efforts: Bernadette Costello and Jim Mahoney of the United Way Board of Directors; OCO Director of Children’s Services, Beth Kazel; Janis Darby, retired school speech therapist (Oswego District); Pam Burlingame, retired Special Education teacher (Hannibal District); School Psychologist, Gerry Seward, (Hannibal District); Youth Activities Coordinator with the Oswego City/County Youth Bureau, Dawn Metott; Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers, Jane Murphy; Director of Literacy (Oswego District), Laura Ryder; and Elementary Principal (Central Square District), Mike Eiffe.  This book would not be possible with their input,” Trexler added.

Trexler said funding for the design, printing and distribution of the book was provided by Entergy’s James A. FitzPatrick Plant and the Oswego Noon Rotary Club.

The book will be available at a various locations throughout Oswego County.
