Fishing Reports for November 17, 2009

This report a courtesy of Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning.

The following notice has been posted for Lake Ontario waters:
Remember the area around the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Facility is off limits to boating. The restricted area stretches 1,000 yards offshore and extends from the Alcan plant to the Sunset Bay area along Lake Ontario, east of the city of Oswego.

Oswego River/Lake Ontario report:
Oswego River report:
According to Larry Muroski of Larry’s Oswego Salmon Shop:
The water level has been running between 2,000 and 3,500cfs for the last couple of days. We have had almost no rain in the last several days and there is very little in the seven day forecast. The water is clear and with the bright sunshine, anglers are working a little harder. There are good numbers of steelhead, rainbows and browns throughout the river. Driftboats are getting some nice catches provided the water remains at a fishable level. Baits to try are trout beads, nightcrawlers, wax worms, Glo-bug yarn, egg sacs, pink worms and fathead minnows.

Salmon River/Pulaski Area report:
According to Whitaker’s Sport Shop & Motel:
Monday was another nice day – cool but lots of sunshine. The upper end of the river between Altmar and Pineville continues to get the most fishing pressure on a daily basis. With the low and clear water conditions fresh fish are still entering the river. On the bright sunny days, early mornings and late afternoons have produced the best results. Glo-bugs, estaz eggs, sucker spawn, flesh fly, beadhead woolly buggers, egg sucking leeches and beadhead nymphs have worked well for those anglers fly fishing. Egg sacs, trout beads and pink worms are working for those anglers float fishing or bottom bouncing.

According to the Douglaston Salmon Run:
We have very few anglers on the water today. The ones that are here are enjoying another beautiful November day. One angler was enjoying some good action in the Glide. He was floating blue goo egg sacs under a float.

Oneida Lake report:
Anglers have reported some nice nighttime walleye catches, however, the bite remains somewhat inconsistent.
The bite can be good one night but slow the next.  Stickbaits, especially those resembling gizzard shad in blue/silver and black/silver are good choices of bait.  Anglers are finding some yellow perch along the weedlines in 10-20 feet of water and smallmouth bass are active throughout the lake.

Sandy Pond report:
There is not much activity on the pond at this time.
