OSWEGO — World-class Romanian violinist Irina Muresanu will continue the SUNY Oswego Ke-Nekt Chamber Music Series with “Homage to the Violin Sonata” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, in the Sheldon Hall ballroom.

The international award-winning violinist will perform sonatas by the likes of Beethoven, Schubert and Prokofiev with pianist Robert Auler of SUNY Oswego’s music department.

Muresanu graduated from the New England Conservatory in 1999, where she is a candidate to receive her doctorate in musical arts. She serves on the faculties of the Boston Conservatory and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s music department.

She has earned top honors in the Montreal International, Queen Elizabeth Violin, UNISA International String, Washington International and Schadt String competitions. Muresanu also won the Pro Musicis International Award and Arthur Foote Award from the Harvard Musical Association.

Calling her “not just a virtuoso, but an artist,” the Boston Globe frequently cites her performances at top regional classical events. The Los Angeles Times wrote that her “musical luster, melting lyricism and colorful conception made Irina Muresanu’s performance especially admirable.”

She will give a pre-concert talk at 7 p.m. in the Sheldon ballroom.

Tickets to the evening concert cost $15 ($10 for seniors and children, $5 for SUNY Oswego students) and are available through Tyler box office at 312-2141 or http://tickets.oswego.edu. Parking is free in campus lots on evenings and weekends.
