Rural Health Network To Host Webinar

OSWEGO, NY – Coordinator of the Rural Health Network of Oswego County, Tricia Clark, announced the organization will host an informative webinar on the latest developments in health information technology and how it can benefit health care providers.

“This is really a must attend event for health care providers,” said Clark.  “We are fortunate to have renown physician, Neil Calman, MD, president and CEO of the Institute for Family Health as our featured presenter.  Dr. Calman will provide an insider’s view of the discussions taking place now in Washington and an overview of the importance of ‘meaningful use’ as it pertains to electronic health records and how it can positively impact our area health care providers.”

Appointed by the Obama administration to serve on the Health Information Technology Policy Committee, Calman has been charged to ensure that HIT fulfills its promise of improving the health of Americans through improved quality and safety, expanded access, improved patient engagement in their own health care and reduced health disparities.

A board certified family physician, Calman has practiced in the Bronx and Manhattan for the past 30 years.

He was instrumental in making the Institute For Family Health one of the first community health center networks in the country to implement a fully integrated electronic medical record and practice management system, improving both preventive and chronic care treatment outcomes throughout its centers.

He was a 2006 recipient of the Physician’s Information Technology Leadership Award and serves on a variety of committees including the New York State Department of Health’s Information Technology Stakeholder Group Planning Committee, and is currently Chair of the Clinical Committee of the Community Health Care Association of New York State.

He has also been appointed to the Health Policy Roundtable of the Aspen Institute, a group charged with delineating the values and principles on which the United States must base its future health care system.

In addition to Dr. Calman, Clark said that there would also be presentations from local health care providers who are currently using electronic health records at their practice.

“President Obama’s stimulus package includes millions of dollars in funds for improved medical technology in regards to record keeping and paperwork. By 2011 there will be incentives through Medicare and Medicaid for physicians to adopt the implementation of electronic health records. I strongly encourage health care providers to attend this enlightening event to learn more about the importance of implementing electronic health records and hear first hand how the meaningful use of electronic health records can benefit their practice,” she said.

The Rural Health Network’s Webinar on Health Information Technology will be held Dec. 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Room 118 of Rich Hall on the SUNY Oswego campus.

The event is open to all health care providers and dinner will be provided for all those who attend.

Those interested in attending the event are asked to RSVP to Clark at 342-0888 ext. 1457 or via e-mail at [email protected]
