Police say a routine traffic stop helped them solve a burglary in Hannibal.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Department said that a state Department of Environmental Conservation officer pulled over a vehicle at about 2:00 p.m. on December 18 along 66 Road in the town of Hannibal.

The driver was Nathen A. MacDonald, 24, of 640 County Route 7, Hannibal.

Police say they found in the trunk of his car items that had been reported stolen during a burglary in Hannibal on December 10.  MacDonald was charged at the time with possessing stolen property, a misdemeanor, and was issued a ticket to appear in Hannibal Town Court on January 12.

But police weren’t done.

Their investigation led to new charges — that MacDonald took part in the burglary on December 10.  He’s accused of, quoting from the Sheriff’s Department’s report of the incident, “causing damage to a front door and kitchen window, causing damage to several items in the home, strewing televisions about in one room, breaking the faceplate off from a thermostat and turning the heat turned all the way up, breaking pottery, pulling a light fixture from the ceiling, and stealing items from within.”

MacDonald’s been charged with misdemeanor counts of petit larceny and criminal mischief, as well as a felony count of burglary.  He was arraigned before Hannibal Justice Luther Dennison and released without bail, to return on January 12.

Nathaniel V. Ellis graduated from the U.S. Army Warrant Officer Candidate School at Fort Rucker, Daleville, Ala., and was appointed to the rank of warrant officer one.

The Curse of the Silverback, the Enchanted Forest/Water Safari’s newest water ride, which debuted in 2009, is expected to continue to draw visitors with its unique purple and black appeal and daring silverback theme.  Riders experience a 100 foot drop into a large 40-ft diameter bowl where they circle the bowl dropping out the middle into the splash pool below.
