OSWEGO — WRVO News and the Innovation Trail reporting project will present a community forum on our energy resources and where they come from on Monday, Nov. 21, at SUNY Oswego Metro Center in Syracuse.
The one-hour program, which will attempt to put energy resource use and development in context amid the din of controversial topics such as hydrofracking and new power lines, will be taped at 7 p.m. at the Metro Center in the Atrium on Clinton Square.
With millions being poured into “green” energy projects and research, the energy mix that New York state will end up with is a work in progress. In a program titled “Where Is New York Getting Its Energy?” moderator Emma Jacobs, Innovation Trail reporter for WRVO, and panelists will address questions such as what resources are available, and what New Yorkers want to see powering their toasters and laptops in the years to come.
Guests will include Jeff Brady, National Public Radio energy reporter; Pete Wilcoxen, professor of energy and policy at Syracuse University and a senior fellow with the Brookings Institution; and Andrea Feldpausch-Parker, assistant professor of environmental communication at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
The program will air at noon and 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, on WRVO, whose broadcast studios and administrative offices are on the SUNY Oswego campus. It will also air across New York on other participating Innovation Trail media outlets at other times to be announced.
The Innovation Trail is a collaboration among five Upstate public media outlets. The initiative, funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, is designed to help the public gain a better understanding of the connection between technological breakthroughs and the revitalization of Upstate New York’s economy. Reports focus on research, development, education, funding and policy issues around emerging fields such as energy, information technology, biotech, nanotech and photonics.
WRVO Public Media is a nonprofit and noncommercial radio, online and mobile news and information service for residents of Central and Northern New York. It includes three program streams: WRVO-1, an NPR affiliate broadcasting over WRVO-FM and 10 regional FM transmitters; WRVO-2, Public Radio Remix, an eclectic mix of short features from public radio stations across the country; and WRVO-3, also known as WRVO International, presenting live news and information programming from the BBC, Radio Netherlands Worldwide and Deutsche Welle, among other services.
