Do This Tonight: Swingin’ Big Band at Breitbeck

Here’s something to do on a Wednesday night:  Head for Breitbeck Park in Oswego to take in the sounds of the Oswego County Summer Stage Band.

The 17-piece big band led by Stan Gosek will blow through a handful of classic swing tunes, such as Count Basie’s “Jumpin’ At The Woodside”, Glenn Miller’s “In The Mood”, “Satin Doll”, “Minnie The Moocher”, “Harlem Nocturne”, and more.

The show begins at Breitbeck Park at 7:30 p.m.  Bring your chair and perhaps a blanket, as it’s likely to be a tad cool by the lakeside late in the day.

Spiritually Speaking: Play Time, Part 2

Play time is over. Vacation ended yesterday. I didn’t get to play any games of miniature golf but I did win several games of Hearts, Scrabble and one game of Life. Remember that old board game? Now it is computerized and loads of fun to play. I ended the game with more than $6 million in the bank, a house with $1 million, a Ph. D., a best selling novel and a sub-compact car. I earned most of my money because early on in the game I discovered a cure for baldness which gave me $900,000, leaving the other players eating my dust for the rest of the game.

In our Heritage Hall the crowds were not at all lessened by the weather. Each day we were very busy from early morning through the evening. Of the 22 townships of Oswego County historians from all but three participated in the week’s activities.
