Local Eagle Scout Builds 15 Picnic Tables for Camp Hollis

Eagle Scout candidate Zac Schrecengost stands near some of the 15 picnic tables he designed, constructed and painted for Camp Hollis. Campers and visitors will enjoy the outdoor furniture for years to come.Oswego County children and their families have enjoyed the beautiful lakeshore setting at Camp Hollis since 1946. Now, thanks to an Oswego Eagle Scout, they have 15 brand new picnic tables upon which to enjoy their outdoor meals.

Health Department Offers Food Safety Tips for Summer Cooking

Handle raw meat carefully and make sure it is cooked thoroughly to ensure a safe picnic.“Food-borne illnesses increase during the summer months,” said Dr. Dennis Norfleet, Oswego County Public Health Director. “Given the right circumstances, harmful bacteria can quickly multiply on food to large numbers. When this happens, someone eating the food can get sick.”

Legislature Marks Disabilities Awareness Day

The Oswego County Legislature designated July 26 as Americans with Disabilities Awareness Day to promote education about advocacy, resources and services available to county residents. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 guarantees that people with disabilities have access to employment, public accommodations, transportation, services and telecommunications. Legislator John Proud, chairman of the Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee, presented the proclamation to Sabine Ingerson, director of ARISE of Oswego County. LIFE Group Visits Howe Caverns

   Recently, one of the groups from the LIFE program at Oswego Industries, Inc. visited Howe Caverns.  This is the third year in a row the program has made the trip to see this local, natural wonder.  Oswego Industries, Inc. is a not-for-profit Community Rehabilitation Program which has been providing services to individuals with disabilities in Oswego County since 1968.  The LIFE program uses the community as a classroom, teaching life skills and encouraging community inclusion. Oswego Hospital Donates Helmets to Oswego YMCA for Skate Park

Oswego Hospital’s emergency department staff has donated helmets to the Oswego YMCA for use at the new skate park at Crisafulli Park.  Preventing head injuries is an initiative of the department. Each year, staff from the department fits hundreds of individuals with an appropriate helmet.              In the photo from the left are Brandi Engle, RN; Margaret Beers, ED clinical coordinator; Liz-Dehm-Henderson, ED technician; Kelly Matthew, RN; Taylor Tice, ED technician; and Kevin Leroy, family nurse practitioner. In the back row from the left are Mike Lavner, of the Oswego YMCA; Mohamed Ahmed, MD; David Ramsey, RN, clinical manager of the ED and Julie Woodruff, RN.  The Oswego Healthcare System includes Oswego Hospital, The Manor at Seneca Hill, a skilled nursing facility; Springside at Seneca Hill, a retirement living community; an urgent care center in Fulton, as well as health services centers in Mexico, Parish and Phoenix.
