Bucs Rally For Lacrosse Victory

Oswego John Phillips (20) on defense for the Bucs.

Better weather conditions greeted the Oswego High School Buc varsity lacrosse team as it hit Joe Wilber Field on Wednesday. A six-goal second half explosion spearheaded by two goals apiece by Dan Maniccia and Matt Lloyd spelled the difference as the Bucs walked off the field with a 6-3 win and a 2-0 early season record.

New State Budget Puts Back a Little of the State Aid for Schools Cut by Governor Cuomo

Oswego Band Musician Of The Month For March: Emily Rumrill

Music teacher Scott Ciesla said, “Emily is currently the principal oboist in the OHS Wind Ensemble. She also plays tenor saxophone in the Jazz Ensemble, and has performed in the OHS Symphony Orchestra.” She started in the band program as a flute player and switched to oboe during her sophomore year.

Sunrise Rotarians Get a Read on Literacy Volunteers

At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary meeting, Jane Murphy, Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County, presented a program about the organization which help people learn reading, writing and other life skills.  Over 17,000 people in Oswego County, which is 20 percent of the adult population, cannot read above the 5th grade level.  Eighty-four percent of all Literacy Volunteer clients fall between the ages of 19 and 59. There is a need for Literacy Volunteer tutors, who must be 18 years or older, have two hours a week to volunteer and enjoy making a difference in someone's life.  Please call 342-8839 for more information.   Also pictured is Rotarian Mike DeLorme.   The Fulton Sunrise Rotary meets every Friday at 7 AM at Fulton's Riverside Inn. Campus/City Relations Committee Announces Participation In Canal ‘Clean Sweep’

This is a photo from last year's cleanup by a group from the college loading trash they found along the lakefront onto the trash truck donated for the day by Lee Walker. It shows the volume of trash that needs to be cleaned up each year.

In preparation for the upcoming 186th consecutive navigation season on the New York State Canal System and in recognition of Earth Day 2011, the New York State Canal Corporation in partnership with the Parks and Trails NY, has designated April 16 as “Canal Clean Sweep.”

Several Oswego High School students participated in the Oswego County All-County Orchestra Festival held at G. Ray Bodley High School on March 18-19. The students were chosen through auditions.
