Also in September, Thousands of students returned to school. Members of the Oswego Fire Department held a memorial to honor the victims of Sept. 11, 2001. And, law enforcement agencies gathered in Oswego to train with high-tech equipment to detect radiological material before it can be used in a weapon by would-be terrorists.

Also in August, the little girl who contracted the Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus died from the disease. Residency restrictions were placed on Oswego’s out-of-town landlords. The city budget was approved and the farmers’ market goes smoke-free.

Compass Invests In Oswego Elementary Schools
Compass Credit Union has once again stepped forward to assist Oswego schools. During this year’s holiday season Compass Credit Union donated a total of $2,000 to four elementary schools who participate in the “Bank at School” program.”

Derby On Tap
The Oz Roller Girls will host a guest bartending fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 12, at Greene’s Ale House in Oswego. The Oz Roller Girls begin their second home season hosting the Kingston Derby Girls on March 10, in Oswego’s historic Armory.

Offered through Catholic Charities of Oswego County, Step by Step Wellness Program’s Mental Illness and Chemical Addiction group is a peer run support group specifically designed to serve people in need of support for mental illness and chemical addiction.

Happy Holiday School Bus
The final day of school, prior to holiday break, Oswego bus driver Josh VanGorder wore a Christmas tree hat and greeted his student passengers. It was a bus celebration as most of the Riley students donned Christmas hats, reindeer antlers or just huge holiday smiles.

Tesoriero Foundation Assists Leighton School
The Frederick Leighton Elementary School has received a $1,000 donation from the Tesoriero Charity Fund (David Tesoriero). It will be used for the PBIS Store, yearbook and for thanking volunteers for all they do for the children at Leighton.
