The Oswego County Legislature recognized October 15 as National White Cane Safety Day at its October meeting. This recognition promotes awareness, education and advocacy for issues that affect individuals with a vision impairment which requires them to carry a white cane.
Rocco P. Fortino, 93, of Oswego, died Saturday morning October 20, 2012, at his home with his family at his side.
The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team ran into a hot goaltender in Thatcher Demko, as the Lakers lost 2-0 in an exhibition game against the USA Under-18 team Saturday night in front of a sold-out Campus Center Ice Arena.
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team opened its 2012-13 season with a 2-1 exhibition loss to the Toronto Midget Aeros on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center Ice Arena. The Lakers held a 1-0 lead after the first period, but were unable to maintain the lead.
Nikki Liadka (Jr., Liverpool, N.Y.) ensured the seniors had a game to remember as she scored in overtime to help the Oswego State women’s soccer team (6-9-0, 3-6-0 SUNYAC) down Cortland (8-4-4, 5-2-2 SUNYAC) 1-0 on Senior Day.
