We hear about cases on the news and we see mug shots of those who are charged or convicted of some heinous child sex abuse act. There is no excuse for these perpetrators and sickens the majority of us who have to read these stories. The good thing about these news stories is that when we see them reported, we know our law enforcement is catching more of these types of perpetrators.
The Oswego State softball team (7-13, 4-6 SUNYAC) broke out for an 18-0 victory in game one, but could not complete the sweep as the Lakers fell to Potsdam (7-13, 1-11), 3-1, in the second game of the doubleheader Monday.
The Oswego State men’s golf team climbed two spots in the team standings after firing a round of 331 for a two-day score of 663 at the Mike Bello Invitational to finish 13th out of 17 teams on Monday.
The site of the former Pathfinder Industries building looks much different now than it did back in March, after the building was destroyed by fire. The day after the fire, the owners met with Fulton Mayor Ron Woodward and the Common Council and demolition permits were handed out. The space is now a vacant lot ready to be built upon again.
It is with great sorrow that the family of Rafael “Ralph” Pietro Firenze, 80, of Fulton announces his passing on Sunday April 14, 2013, at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse, after a long fight and courageous battle with heart disease.
Shirley T. Winterhalt, 80, of Oswego, passed away at University Hospital on Saturday April 13, 2013.
On both April 13 and 14 we were open and helped many visitors with research. We were especially pleased to welcome Penny Schott home. Penny was our chief researcher and librarian for many years until she moved to New Hampshire. She and a friend returned for a visit and brought us four boxes of genealogy and research books for our library.
During school break, three of our school age students at Discovery Day Care played a “fun” game of Monopoly. The students learned to count money, make decision on buying property and worked together as a team.
A wide variety of items for all ages will be available during Port City Roller Derby’s Let’s Get Ready to Rummage Sale on April 27. The sale will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Cove, the non-profit organization’s facility at Oswego’s Midtown Plaza.
Many teachers go above and beyond to inspire those they educate. I want to show my appreciation and support for these teachers and all others in the education field. To do so, I have created the “Teaching Excellence” award.
