The family event, which included a chicken BBQ, bake sale, entertainment by Jammin’ Beats, door prizes, 50/50 raffles, games and crafts, was organized by the Parents of Special Children staff and board members.
We had an interesting conversation yesterday with another animal lover who told us about her middle aged cat, Annabelle, who “suddenly last summer” stopped using her litter box. The box was and always had been located in their finished basement in the exact same location and there had been no sudden changes in the household.
With the end of the school year in sight, many students are anxiously awaiting the summer months. While spending time by the pool, fishing, and playing outdoors may be at the top of their to-do list, there’s one thing students should do to keep their skills honed and their minds sharp – read.
The Oswego Fire Department will be testing fire hydrants in the Fifth Ward throughout the summer months. The work will continue until the entire ward is completed.

SUNY Oswego has received a SUNY High Needs Program grant of $183,800 to accelerate development of its engineering programs and recruit and prepare students for high-need jobs in the region.
Rose Chamberlin of Oswego earned a bachelor’s degree from Wells College. Rose majored in psychology and was awarded the Ariel Lawson ’08 Memorial Prize.
The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown high school honored its top athletes at a banquet recently.

The Common Council voted 4-3 in favor of eliminating four positions from the fire department. The positions are currently vacant, but the firefighters’ union says they were in the 2013 budget to be filled to keep the staffing at safe levels. If they can’t work things out with the city, the union may file a grievance against the city to return the positions to the budget.
