SUNY Oswego has earned a spot on the 2014 Military Friendly Schools list of a veteran-owned media company, as college staff and veteran students continue a multiyear effort to improve life for the campus’ military veterans, including a newly unveiled Veterans Lounge.
One day after the primary election the City of Fulton Republican Committee welcomed 12 new members to the committee. There was also an immediate changing of the guard and new officers were elected to head up the committee.
A bit of local history will be available at the Oswego Health Auxiliary’s annual bazaar to be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. October 9 and 10 in the lobby of Oswego Hospital. During the bazaar, tickets to win the American Girl Doll, Caroline Abbott, will be available.

For those with a mental diagnosis developing and enhancing life skills can be a challenge. The Step By Step Program at Catholic Charities is making that challenge a little easier with a series of four Life Skills Development workshops. Each workshop will focus on a specific life skill that is essential to living independently.
On October 2, the issue of homelessness in Oswego County will be front and center as COACH, Oswego County’s continuum of Care committee hosts a community forum on the topic. To be held, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Oswego County Health Department, the forum will offer the community the opportunity to hear the specifics on homelessness in Oswego County and learn of the plans being developed to effectively address the issue.
At its meeting this week, the Physical Services Committee councilors considered restricting certain parking within the Third Ward. Tony Leotta, city engineer, said he received a request from Councilor Mike Todd to place a moratorium on applications for front yard parking on private properties in the Third Ward until December 31, 2014.
Ottawa, Canada’s capital, is a world-class city closer to Central New York than New York City. The architecture of the Parliament buildings and colorful changing of the guard brings to mind London. Local wits like to say Ottawa was picked as the capital because Queen Victoria threw a dart and claimed that was where she wanted the capital.
