The Oswego Fire Department announces the retirement of Firefighter William F. Delapp effective January 30, 2014, after more than 32 years of dedicated service. Appointed September 14, 1981, Bill spent his entire career as a member of “D” Shift.
Annually historic figures come to life (well sort of) as Frederick Leighton Elementary teacher Tom Wiegand has his students create a wax museum. What visitors to the classroom view are figures of well-known and sometimes lesser-known, persons who have made a difference.
However, this project is much more than the final event.
The United Way of Greater Oswego County recognized its many leadership givers during a special reception in their honor at Under the Moon in Fulton. The event was attended by more than 60 Leadership Givers, those who pledge $500 or more annually.
Local artist Henry Latino donated a check for $75 for the Lake Neatahwanta Revitilation Project from the sale of one of his “ManCave” artistic wood sculptures.

On Saturday, January 25, the New Hope Presbyterian Church held its annual American Red Cross Blood Drive at the Parish Fire Station. Despite the cold and the busy-ness of everyone’s lives, we welcomed fifty-nine willing donors. The end results were fifty-five units of blood collected, which has the potential to save 165 lives.
The Oswego State men’s basketball team lost 68-66 to Fredonia on a buzzer-beater in overtime. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 12-7 overall and 6-6 in the conference while the Blue Devils improve to 5-14, 2-10.
The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team dominated Stevenson University 6-1 during Pink the Rink Weekend on Saturday afternoon. Oswego’s win improves its record to 11-6-1 on the season while Stevenson drops to 6-13-1.
The Oswego State women’s basketball team dropped a SUNYAC contest 89-78 at Fredonia on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 6-13 on the year and 2-10 in conference play while the Blue Devils improve to 11-7, 6-6.
