State budget negotiations are taking place and the budget deadline of April 1 is nearly upon us. Each year, the Senate and the Assembly pass what they consider to be priorities in “one-house budget” resolutions. The Assembly passed its $138.4 billion one-house resolution earlier this month and the Senate passed its resolution the week before last.
Oswego Speedway and Turning Stone Resort Casino have announced the return of the popular ‘Favorite Driver’ contest for the upcoming 2014 racing season at the famed ‘Steel Palace.’ The second year program will once again give fans an opportunity to give something back to their favorite driver at the conclusion of the 2014 racing season.
The New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame proudly announces that its class of inductees for 2014 will include Rick McDermott of Albion. McDermott will be honored at the annual banquet April 26 in Canastota. He has a longtime involvement with sportsmen’s causes and youth activities.
The annual Minetto Elementary School musical played before an enthusiastic audience of students, parents and community members. Under the direction of Minetto music teacher Susan Olinsky, the students presented “The Trial of Alice in Wonderland.”
The Oswego AmeriCorps launched a new program in February that provides financial literacy and housing services to economically disadvantaged individuals in the county. The Oswego Economic Development Corps supplements the mentoring, fitness and nutrition activities for youth that AmeriCorps has provided locally for several years.
The musical work – composed and directed by Michael A. Bolio, and featuring the talents of the Christian rock band The Sent Forth – will play for one performance on April 5 in the Jubilee Hall of Holy Trinity Parish, 309 Buffalo St., Fulton. Curtain time for the performance is 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from the event will go to help support the mission of Catholic Charities of Oswego County.
The city of Oswego will once again take charge of the men’s and women’s softball leagues this summer. The council debated whether the city would make any money by providing the service. The council approved a new fee schedule with funds generated being dedicated into the Softball Accounting Reserve Fund.
After a winter hiatus, Economy Paving workmen on Monday resumed their renovation of the Broadway Street Bridge, as scheduled.
Nancy M. Merkley, 56, of Fulton, passed away Thursday March 20, 2014, at Oswego Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
Frances L. Dennison nee Frances Louise Perkins, 95, of Hannibal, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Oswego Hospital after a brief illness.
