Two for Two: Tony White Memorial Championship to Andrew Schartner

Andrew Schartner had won nearly every major Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super event at Oswego Speedway, except the Tony White Memorial 35. That all changed Saturday night, as Schartner cruised to his second consecutive win of the season in the Crow Motorsports No. 18 Hedger and first career White Memorial championship presented by RJ Caruso Tax & Accounting and A&P Auto Parts.

Hot Air Balloons to Fly Over Sandy Creek Fairgrounds June 6 – 8

The countdown is under way for the first Oswego County Balloon Festival at the Oswego County Fairgrounds in Sandy Creek. At least ten balloons in a variety of styles are expected to participate. Balloon glows will be held each evening, weather permitting, and balloonists have planned plenty of time for spectators to see launches and demonstrations and take balloon rides throughout the weekend.

Bike safety event set June 6 in Oswego

The Oswego City Fire Department and Oswego City Police Department will be hosting a free bicycle safety event for families on June 6 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Eastside Fire Station. Bring a bike if you have one. If not, there will be bikes to borrow. Two brand new bicycles from Murdock’s, donated by the Oswego Speedway and Chris Nelson Insurance, will be raffled off.

Volunteers at CNY Arts Centers were recently introduced to Project Linus and saw an obvious partnership between the charitable blanket organization and the current production of ‘You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.’ The national mission of the non-profit Project Linus is to provide homemade security blankets to children in need.

Sandra Scott Travels: A spectacular cruise on China’s Yangtze’s River

Author Pearl Buck called the Yangtze “The wildest, wickedest river on earth.” All that changed when the river was tamed upon the completion of the Three Gorges Dam in 2012. There was a lot of controversy surrounding the dam’s construction as I am sure there must have been similar concerns when the Hoover Dam was built. Thousands of people were displaced but the new towns created along the river looked very nice and there is no longer the danger of yearly flooding plus China needed the power to continue its rapid industrialization.
